Default 1970 ZR1 Question

On eBay there is a 1970 ZR1 for sale and it has the L88 warning sticker on the center console for use of proper fuel.

Did the ZR1 originally come with that sticker because I've only seen them in the L88's?

Cannt imagine why, it is an Lt-1, 11:1 compression and they did not have the sticker. L-88 had higher compression, 12.5:1, thus the sticker.

I looked up that car on eBay. The bogus sticker is the least of a buyer's worries.

So are you suggesting this is a clone and not one of the original 25 built?

In the couple minutes I looked at it I saw:

No shroud on the distributor, the sticker, and incorrect side pipes but my eye isn't that good on C3's. What else?

It's 1970 vin #3, so it is a pilot line ZR-1

ZR1's did not have an option for a radio, and came with radio delete plate - which this car has - and did not have the shielding, and condensors that were part of the radio option.

One BIG thing the seller missed was that ZR1 also did not have the UA6 alarm option. I wonder what the sellers excuse for this one is? I'm going to send him a note, and ask how his car came with an option that was not available on ZR1's.

I just sent the seller the following note, I'm sure I'll hear back soon.

Hello,

I'm interested in you car, but I'm curious that you car appears to have the factory alarm system, and it is my understanding that the UA6 option was not available with option ZR1.

Can you please explain this discrepancy?

My guess is that after the car does not sell, the evidence of option AU6 is removed, and the car comes back for auction.

So with that said, are we thinking this MAY be a clone car then? Or does the presence of the AU6 option in this car prove that this is not one of the original group of 25?

I am adding link to auction for ease of access.

Quick answer: He added the factory alarm during the restoraton. Same for the side pipes.

Your proposed quick answer and laugh confirms it for me this is a clone unless I am notified otherwise.

Auctions like this are frightening. It is horrible that someone could actually end up buying this at that price.

Some things just aren't right.

I bet the 43 watchers have no interest in buying, they just want to see if it actually sells

Well I would say the majority of the folks who have read this thread are one of the watchers listed.

So the ZR1 at Pro Team Corvette should not have the shielding? I'm just checking and trying to learn as I go here. Thx.

Why do you assume it's a fake? It could be an actual ZR-1 with ditzy stuff added. Stranger things have happened.

I would love to know how the seller knows his is the third ZR-1 assembled.

Buyer Beware.

Saying it's the first or second would be unbelievable

That's right. If you check the 1970 AIM, you'll see under the U69/U79 options where these items are added. You should not find any ground straps on the exhaust either.

Here's a picture of a real ZR1, not that I am insinuating the one being discussed is not a real ZR1...
