Corvette Restoration.com thoughts?
Would appreciate any +/- comments and or recommendations on Corvette Restorations.com in Kentuckiana (near Louisville on Indiana/Kentucky line). My son wants his '72 painted and is interested in hearing from people who have had their cars painted there and the level of satisfaction and customer service you received fare pricing, etc. He wants a quality job, original color (steel cities gray), but not lacquer. Used for local car shows and cruising in the Nashville area and will never be NCRS or BG judged. Thanks in advance for your impressions of this restoration shop. Thanks.

Hi P58,
I took a look at the web site and CR looks like a pretty serious operation.
3 thoughts come to mind:
First, I believe that Steel Cities Gray is a very difficult color to spray (as were the other "FireMist" colors introduced for the 71 model year) and takes a good bit of skill to turn out looking terrific.
Secondly, make sure CR understands in detail what your expectations are and exactly what you're expecting them to do.
Third, understand what the cost is going to be and how and why the cost will escalate.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
PS: With SCG I would recommend that some test panels be done in advance so that you can see what the finished color and metallic will be under various lighting conditions.
SCG can look VERY different depending on how the paint was mixed, and how it was sprayed and finished. It would be a shame to have the car car finished and realize it's "too green", or "wow, that metallic looks odd".

The problem with a lot of the paint manufacturers is that the old paint codes do not translate into the new formulas of base coat. Getting a test sample would be wise. I have a 72 SCG convertible that I am going to paint and the PPG factory rep gave me a PPG code of 32907. I will paint a test piece before I purchase. Good Luck
