Way back before recorded time I could have have a 1960 Ford F-100 SB for free bur I didn't want a TRUCK. I ended up with a 1966 Chevy Caprice with a 396, bucket seats, console.....it was the Sport Model for the day......
I remember my father taking me to a friend of his that owned a little used car lot and he took a 6 pack of Coors.......They talked and I listened while they drank beer.
So I had my 1966 Chevy and a book of payment stubs for $66.00 a month for 12 months.
My Bad *** 396 lost every race I ever had. The hot chic I would get too hook up now and then....the battery was dead so I wasn't luck that way either.
Then to make everything worse, I lost control of it idling over a frozen overpass and smashed it up....Lost about a 3 foot section of 1 inch thick Bondo off the rear QP.....Life after that was a total loss. Crashed car no one wanted to ride in, Hot GF and the dead battery sorta killed that deal..
Irony is a couple years later in my father 1970 Chevy LB 3/4 ton Camper Special I got lucky....But after I got lucky the damn truck fell through the ice in the farmers pond......So after waking up the farmer he pulled the rear wheels out of his pond with his tractor at 2 in the morning.
Life was a bitch while growing up and I wasn't getting any breaks.

51 chevy convertible , fresh out of a barn in Covington Ohio , rotten top , rotten floors , rotten exhaust and rotten seats , but the price was right..... $25.00 and it ran. I got good at duct tape upholstery and top repairs , until the top blew completely off one snowy December night, nothing left but the bows. it also had a bent wheel on the front and it would shake so bad it would put your hands to sleep. i too remember brushing snow off the seat and having to dress like an eskimo to keep from freezing. the car met an ugly death with a rod hanging out the side of the block and got towed to a scrap yard. but at 16 i was happy to have my own wheels and have fond memories of that car.

Way too long ago my best friend was given a '53 Chevy turtleback. One morning we went driving north to go hunting, spotted a pheasant, I said "slow down", he promptly lost control (we were going about 30 MPH) and ended in the ditch upside down. Walked to the nearest farm house. Called a buddy with a tow truck, he arrived, pulled the car out of the ditch and then flipped it back on it's tires.
We pushed the crushed roof up, waited for the fluids to settle where they belonged. Started the car and drove the 10 miles back into town in a mosquito fogger.
Never got that pheasant, but it was a couple of high kids with a story to tell. BTW, my friend attended the Air Force Academy and is a pilot for a major airlines about ready to retire!
Regards,
Kelly
