Default 427 block question…R/T timing cover.

When in 1968 did they start using the BBC timing cover with the guide pin holes. Or, another way to put it is, when did they start putting pins in the face of the block on BBC. Did they appear with the production of the 439 block? I am also looking for an early 439 block, any out there?? Thanks!

The 439 block, which came out in Jan of 1968, was the first to use the dowel pin front timing chain covers.

Default Geopar

I recently looked at a lot of 439 blocks. I found early one's that had the boss for the dowel pin holes. I found some a little later that had the dowel pin holes and then just a little latter, I started finding the blocks with dowel pins in them. It was like seeing the evolution of the dowel pins. So, not all 439 blocks were set up for dowel pins. In general though, I would say they were configured to have them. T
