Some times you get a stillness in the action associated with a build, or maybe you don't, but I do. That is when I like to take a little time to think about what I see.
And then you mull it over and walk through what you have done to either confirm or consider changes to your build plans or direction.
We will be lifting the body off of the chassis on Saturday, April 1st, and I will have access to all things easily once again. I remember when it looked like these pictures and it was so easy to work on.
As I walked through the build I got to the engine/transmission/differential/half shafts/trailing arm portion of the build and it struck me that I may not have built the rear correctly to handle the high torque it will see coming from that 496 engine. With 565 hp and over 650 rated in torque and 10" rear wheels and tires I began to have visions of a broken differential, twisted half shafts, who knows what else?
So I am changing directions slightly and going to rectify a series of concerns before they become problems. Best done with the body off I have ordered a couple of items and will be removing the rear end of the car to install new Van Steel H-D offset trailing arms and new Fort Wayne Clutch and Driveline 3" H-D half shafts. Half shafts are rated to 800 ft. pounds of torque which is above my expected requirements, so those should work out well. Offsets are to get more space between my trailing arms and my rear tires. I have space there, just not much, and the 2" offset should help me sleep better about the fit and function of the trailing arms, plus these are H-D.
The only remaining piece of the puzzle is the rear differential. Speaking with Gordon I am going to change the differential from 3.36:1 to 3.55:1 gear set and make sure it is ready for the higher torque it will see. It has been rebuilt but I would like another look at it before putting it into action, again as a safety measure.
Half shafts and offsets are on order now, awaiting word from differential building (Gary R) to see if he can get mine in for a change and confirmation of readiness.
Some times you just have to slow down, or stop, in order to proceed.
My goal is simply this; when the body goes on again I would like it to be the last time I have to lift it off; but we will see how that works out.
Thanks for following along.
David

I have an original Super 10 build in line with Gary R.
He is booked up into the Summer.
You can have my spot in line as my build is nowhere near yours in progress or completion.
I'll send him a message confirming this.
He IS by far the best builder I have run into.
And he gets stuff done when he promises it.
Along with pics of the progress.
Definitely want to see yours and Bill's cars on the road this year.
2018 is fine for me.

I picked up the 69 rolling chassis from my media shop today and tomorrow I will prime it so it can serve as a "body dolly" for the 72 racer body while I work on the 72 chassis. Plan is moving along nicely now.
Liftoff on schedule for Saturday at noon, EDST.
T-Minus 89 hours and 41 minutes and counting....

You have done a lot even if you have not noticed it with all your generosity on this forum.
Good people doing good things for others is contagious (and the way it should be).
Any time I can help you or someone else here, just ask.
Peace

69 Rolling Chassis is staged and ready for service.
Test lift has been completed with new lifting straps with success.
We are approaching the T-Minus 48 hour mark and we are good to go for lift off on Saturday at noon.
Today we prep the remainder of the garage.
Have a good day.

The only remaining piece of the puzzle is the rear differential. Speaking with Gordon I am going to change the differential from 3.36:1 to 3.55:1 ( Lets go 3.73, better suited for the TKO600) gear set and make sure it is ready for the higher torque it will see. It has been rebuilt but I would like another look at it before putting it into action, again as a safety measure.

No plans at the moment Bats, need it finished first. I have heard there in an invitational event in Watkins Glen that sounds like something I would like, but need to get it finished first.
I also may take it to Daytona for the open track event, what the heck.

I still think the Hurricane wheels look great- even if they've only been around for 40 years!!!

Funny you mention the hurricane wheels Richard. I bought and have now received a set of four hurricane wheels from 1960fi George. I wanted the 8-1/2" size and I liked the look of the spinners on them so I purchased these. (Sitting on the car George sold, new owner wanted ralleye wheels, I bought these, win-win.
I am currently considering my options with them but the four spinners and their extensions are most likely going to get either a re-chrome or a powder coating treatment. The wheels, no decision yet. I have 8-1/2" wheels now for the front of the racer which will be shown at a later date. Anyway, lots of hurricanes blowing through my place in Easton lately. LOL.
