I can proudly say that I am (was) a Video Ranger. It used to be telecast from 5:45 to 6:00, just in time to finish and for my dad to get home and sit down for dinner.
But what I really like about the 50's and 60's is that the cars all looked different, and you could tell a GM from a Ford or Chrysler.

Good eye, they are 49 Plymouth front and rear bumpers. Right after this it was painted black. Dave

Alan,

My school sent us all out in the hallway, during the air raid drills. The halls in my elementary school were lined with glass enclosed display cases, and we had to kneel underneath them.

As a 10 year old, this seemed pretty stupid, and yet apparently the stupidity of it, never occurred to the teachers or administrators!

Some very iconic images. Certainly a much simpler time.

I wonder how many people today under the age of 30 have actually set foot in a Woolworth's?

Alan,
I started my teaching career in 1973 with 3rd grade. At my first faculty meeting in September, the principal announced that we were going to have a duck and cover drill later that day. I asked what the purpose of the drill was, because I felt as did everyone else, that if we had a nuclear attack, nothing would save us. He eased everyone's concern with a little humor. He replied, "If we are attacked, it just gives everyone the opportunity to put their head between their legs so they can kiss their *** goodbye." A quote I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Woolworths used to sell mil surplus rifles.
They were in an umbrella stand.
Boy if I knew then what I know now.

Yes, Mr Potato Head was a 50's toy. I still have my original one. Unlike the new ones that have a plastic body with them, you actually had to use a real potato for the body.

I loved the 50's and 60's so much that I still try to live my life enjoying it through the old cars and the music . Glad I was raised through that period.
