Replacing W/s pillar trim..How difficult?
I am slowly replacing much needed attention trim, Now I am at the pillar trim. I have them ordered and I read that you need to dry fit and punch a hole with an awl and then drill ws trim.Just wanted to see who all has done this and what to be aware of.
Thanks

You shouldn't have to drill any holes if you have the correct weatherstrip. One key to getting the pillar weatherstrip installed properly is to make sure the pillar weatherstrip retaining moldings don't have any raised areas.
When people take these moldings off the car they tend to pull on them and find a hidden screw. When this happens it pulls the hole inward and leaves a spot that is high and will cause the weatherstrip retainer to rock on the windshield molding... You must make sure this molding sits flush to the car and that there is no rock to it.
It's also smart to replace the blow out clips while you have the weatherstrip off the molding. Unless your old clips still have the plastic coating on them, I would.
There was also a strip of thin rubber between the pillar retainer and the windshield molding.. so you want to salvage this before you install.

Hi,
I agree!…. IF!!! the weatherstrip retainer and reveal moulding being used are the ones you took off THIS car.
Each car might be slightly different but you're home free if you're reusing the parts original to this car. The screws should all end up where they need to be.
Regards,
Alan

I appreciate the feedback but the trim I was referring to is the color coded windshield post header trim moldings. maybe this part of that as well.My weatherstrip on the headers looks good but maybe this part of this too.

Hi th,
The screw holes for the new trim piece should be 'almos't exactly, if not exactly, in the same place as the old piece since the piece of trim needs to end up in the same place as the original.
Regards,
Alan

I just put new Corvette America ones on my 72'....and it says right in the instructions that GM drilled the hole up top as the molding was installed.....this I believe...because mine was slightly off with the new one......drilled a new hole and all is well.

I though we were talking about the interior A-pillar trim inside?
Even the OP came back and said this.....the color matched interior trim panel.

To us in the parts business, w/s = weatherstrip. I should have read closer. The op's not checked back in so maybe he won't notice..
