That's a very nice car and it looks like its going to bring a pretty nice penny.. good luck with it.

I think Tom Russo collects data on the 1978 cars and the frame stencil. My 78 SA has 28k miles on it but you can't read the stencil.. You might snap a good pic of just that and forward it to him.

Actually, no! (edit...or I don't know!)
Probably will reroute those

I wonder if anyone noticed the newspaper sitting on top of the spare tire carrier and think it's something important?
Was simply paper I had under the car to see if it dripped anywhere. Picked it up to shoot the overall photo and stuck it where it is. Didn't notice it in the wheelwell pic til I saw the enlargement on ebay!

edit.. ya know, looking at some early pictures of both this Pace Car and my previous 78SA, ONE hose on each did run through the lift eye.
Any input on this from anyone?
Most pics I access of original engines have the air cleaner in place and I can't tell(including that $100,000 78SA presently on ebay.
Both my 79s have a hose going through but I put them there.

Dang. Maybe Im just under valuing these cars a guy down the road from me has one for sale for $40,000. It's a nice car but from when I've looked at it it does have some flaws for that much money for a none chrome bumper vette.

Edit:http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/5574841597.html I found his ad.

The labor cost, finding good restorers , good parts aren't cheap. I think people are beginning to recognize the value in a nice running vette that is pretty much turn key.

I have been to the KapsSA "Barn" and I can tell you his cars are every bit as perfect as the pictures on e-Bay show. I purchased his 78 Silver Anniversary with less than 2k miles from this fine gentleman and it is a perfectly preserved specimen that easily took Top Flight at an NCRS meet. Whomever is considering buying the 78 Pace Car, you have nothing to be concerned about I have seen the car and it is a Peach! I can attest that the owner is an honest and upstanding person. (a perfectionist with his cars) ! Someone will be getting a great machine.

I can also attest that the owner is an honest and upstanding person. We've never met, but he has helped me with my 79 and could have been out money by doing so if I had wanted to take advantage of him. I hope the Pace Car brings all the money you hope for. It's as perfect as anyone would expect.

Fantastic looking car! I've always liked the 78 pace cars. GM did a really good job with the design features and paint scheme. This particular car really takes you back to 78 with the shape that it's in. GLWTS

That's a great example. It met reserve so you most likely are satisfied with how the bidding is going so far. Hopefully when the bidding is done the deal is completed and you get your money without having to relist.
The car is well deserving of attaining that price and there is enough time left for the bidding to keep climbing. Good luck.

Steve!
Thank you for the comments!
You had the SA Top Flighted!?
I always wanted to get around to doing such on the 78SA or Pace Car but just never got around to it.
Hope you haven't put too many miles on it and have not had any problems putting it on the road.
I've been toying with selling the Pace Car for 3 years now and this time the market seems to have finally picked up.
I've communicated with the top bidder a bit and he's a collector of various vintages, not just vettes, and sounds like he will continue to preserve it.
I'll miss it

Thanks everyone for you comments.
It is a beautiful car and has been preserved well by past owners and by myself for the last 13 years.
I always told my wife it's part of my pension plan and well, time to cash it in.
I have NO plans to ever sell either of my 79s

Well, like I and probably most of you figured would happen, the buyer bailed on me. Stupid excuses.
Going through the cancellation process with ebay and then will offer it to the second buyer who did say he was interested. But figure he'll try to wheel and deal about it.
Otherwise wait til next year
