Default Fan shroud repair?

While pulling the engine and removing and labeling a plethora of parts, we determined the fan shroud was busted along one edge. Since this part can run ~$350, I was curious as to if anyone has ever repaired a shroud, and if so, with what technique? Can attach pictures if needed. The location of the break is on a corner, about 5 inches in length.

Model year? Some of the shrouds are fiberglass and might be repairable. Others are plastic and possibly not so easily repaired.

If you have the broken off piece and your shroud is the flexible vinyl like plastic like my 1970, you can plastic weld it. Body shops have professional equipment, but I have used a hand held soldering iron with great results. With a clean tip, stab the cracked area to tack it together and then smooth out the joint to make it a very acceptable repair of your original part.

1968. 427/309. I have heard everything from JB weld, epoxy, E6000 to fiberglass/carbon fiber. My main concern is that it will be exposed to higher temps and want whatever repair I choose to withstand that. Thanks!

And yes, I have all the shroud parts, nothing missing, just one side busted off at the intersection of a corner.

The stock 68 big block shroud was fiberglass. If your shroud is stock, you should be able to repair it. There should be no additional heat on the shroud to be concerned with.

From my experiences...the plastic shrouds have a waxy feel to them..and gettign something to stick and stay is quite fun. I never try o bond it alone. I always have to use metal backing material and also bolt or rivet it also.

Mine was broken in two pieces. I fiberglassed it back together, laying a layer of cloth over both sides of the repair. That was 11 years ago, still holding up fine. Just make sure you sand the areas to be repaired very well, so that the resin will stick, (and wear long sleeves).
