Mechanic taking to long?
Good evening all,
I recently dropped a new engine in my 81' corvette. I got rid of the egr system and took an alternative emission route. I had a family emergency and did not want to leave the car sitting unfinished so I want to take it to a mechanic to finish it up.
The following is a list of what needs to be completed and was wondering how long it would take to complete if I take it to a mechanic.
Radiator fan installed.
Radiator fan switch and relay kit installed.
Transmission vacuum line connected to intake
Flexible Transmission dipstick tube installed
Alternator wiring replaced.
Power steering pump installed
Belts installed.
New distributor installed.
Engine timed.
Flywheel Dust cover installed.
Fluids added.
I don't think it would take too long. I would like for it to be finished in about 3 days. Is that asking too much?
Thanks!

Depends on how much work is already in the queue...

Did you ask the shop doing the work how long it will take? Sometimes other bigger higher paying jobs come in and you get bumped. But if the shop quoted you a time, and then exceeds it, then you can complain. Personally, I would rather find a shop that quotes a week and the job is done correctly. Good luck.

it could certainly be "done" in 3 days, but that is assuming there are no surprises. there are ALWAYS surprises! I would plan on a week to be safe. you never know what he will run in to once it's together and he is timing it, since the new engine hasn't been run before in the car, there are literally dozens of things I would be checking if I was the tech working on someone elses half-done project.
