need ignition timming setting 1980 L82
I have a 1980 L82 and my repair manual says see decal under hood for timming degree. There in lies my problem. My vett has no decal.

not quiet sure what you mean
I think I set my timing @ 12 btdc and she runs ok but I would like to fine tune a little and would like to know what GM recommended and since all smog stuff is gone if I can improve on original settings

Lars is our guru-in-residence. He's written a paper on how to time your engine the RIGHT way. (Hint: It has nothing to do with initial timing.) Here's a link:

JMHO, but if you are going to work on your car, you need to buy some good manuals. GM shop manuals, or maybe Chilton, Haynes, etc. I have most of them, and questions like this are answered.

I would include a replacement owner's manual, the assembly instruction manual for 1980, and a replacement underhood decal sticker.

thanks for good advice
Thanks for the advice. Are there any signs that the timing is set too advanced besides detonation. I certainly do not want to damage anything?
