So, here's a question I've never seen asked before. I'm getting ready to paint my '73 -- the last of my "frame-on" restoration. I've seen a bunch of posts about front bumper replacements (mine seems to be OK with just some spiderwebbing) so it may be easy to repair once the car is stripped -- but I got to thinking -- how hard/expensive would it be to put a chrome front bumper on my car? Has anyone put a chrome bumper on a rubber bumper car? I imagine that the frame is fundamentally the same? Is there anything else? Suggestions welcome... :cheers:

Don't do it! one of my favorite combos is the chrome rear with the '73 rubber front! :yesnod:

i agree why chop up and chang a beautiful car for a thin little strip of chrome...DO not do it :cry

It can be done, but will require the replacement of the front fenders. Can replace the entire front end with an earlier model or can graft the front on from wheelwell to wheelwell.

In otherwords, forget it :D :D :D

By the way, it has been asked before. Am starting to think that there is no such thing as a new question. ;)

I agree with above, I don't think you should do it, but if you do, I think you'd need:

Chrome Bumper, Bumperettes, grills, and brackets. I think your looking at a couple grand for the conversion. For that you could have a convertible

I never said I was GOING to do it, I was just curious if it could be done ;)

I love the uniqueness of the 73, believe me!!! :D

That said, I love the chrome bumpers too, and I figured if I had to remove the front clip, it might be interesting. To me, the part that kills it is changing the whole front-end. If it was just a bumper change, I may have considered it.

Personally, I love the 80-82 bumper the most. I'm gonna have to get one for my 79 some time.
