Dumb Fuel Pump Question
I have one of these fuel pumps fitted to the engine in my 82:
But it's got a crack in it and I want to replace it. I'd rather go with a smaller unit, but don't feel the need for a "high performace" job, just another standard pump will be fine. Will one of these pumps be ok?
If so, do they have the 3rd (return?) fitting on them? Sorry for the dull question but my 82 Shop Manual doesn't cover this type of fuel pump!

You can do that but you will need to do something to maintain the return line, thats what the 3rd small line is for. The return does a couple things, it prevents boiling gas from pushing thru the float valve into the carb bowl then into the intake when the car is shut off, It also helps prevent vapor lock by circulating cool fuel from the tank to the pump all the time. Any particular reason you want to use a "smaller" unit?

But if you are running a hard line to the carb it will have to be altered to fit.
Edit -so no cross fire?

No Crossfire (it's part of an artificial reef!!) and no hard line. It was rubber but Aeroquip braided and fittings will be going back on...

Mike "tracdogg2" was able to give me the number for a replacement. ACDelco 41216, looks like this:
Does the same job without that great big jam tin underneath

I'm assuming your not using the CF anymore...right? That's the wrong type of pump for a Crossfire. What happened to the intank pump?

No, the Crossfire is part of an artificial reef (seriously) and I have no idea about the in tank pump It might still be there but it's obviously not hooked up...
