Will ZF trannny fit in C3
I have seen several ads for ZF transmissions used in 94-96 C4 corvettes. I like the idea of having a 6 speed transmission. Will these fit in a C3?
If so, what kind of adapters or braces will be required. I am considering doing this to a 1981 or 1982 car.
Thanks in advance.

From what I've read the ZF isn't a good choice of trans for the C3. I believe parts are very expensive and there may be issues fitting it into the trans tunnel. Do a search on T56 transmissions. There are a number of forum members who have installed the T56 6-speed behind a 350. There will be some modifications needed but it is doable.

Melting Slicks
As the owner of a stock LT4 Vette (96) with a ZF and 3.45 gears, I can tell you that I've only used 6th gear about three times,..and that was just see if it still works. 6th reduces the RPM's too almost nothing unless you're going about 90 mph. It is a great tranny though.
Agree with above. One of the 5-speeds would be a lot easier swap for your C3
Good luck!

Had an LT1 and ZF in my 77, the biggest problem I noticed was the shifter/console location. THen again I didn't do the install so I don't know how much effort went into the conversion.

What was wrong with the shifter location? It's not that much further back than stock, just a little. In the above pics the crossmember is in the stock position, that will give you an idea about shifter location.
Do you have pics of the install?

As always, I am impressed by the Corporate knowledge on this forum and the willingness to share the knowledge.
Thank you all. !!
I will probably go with the 5 speed kits available.
Knowing that the ZF is difficult to fit if at all possible, saves me from spending time and money a project that will be very difficult.
Thanks
