Default The swap begins bought a 04 5.3(lm4) aluminum block

Well I got a great deal on a LM4 5.3 04 trailblazer motor. initial questions are about the accessories. Anyone know if you can fit the 5.3 accessories altenator etc.? I say this because i want to pick up new waterpump, altenator, ps pump just for peace of mind, but if there is no way to make them fit i will just wait and buy all the fbody or vette stuff. I guess you can make anything fit ha..build a bracket

Congrats on the LS swap. You will like it when you get it all done. It was a long road for me but I am getting pretty darn close at this point. I am to the tuning. I added a cam, ported throttle body, headers and mandrel exhaust so tuning is a must. As far as the accessories go, I am not familiar with the truck stuff and how it relates to the corvette. My motor had 27k miles on it so I just reused everything. I did take the alternator apart and clean it up real good though. The sticky thread at the top contains a ton of information about the swap. It seems no two are the same though. You can also check out LS1tech.com and the Conversion and Hybrid section and glean some information off of those guys. They are putting the LS1 in anything you can imagine and making it work. Have fun with it and be sure to keep us up to date with your progress.

If you can get it to fit, I would just put the 'whole shabang' in as a unit. The accessories/belts already fit the engine...why change?

I don't know wheter it will fit or not, I would think it would but have no actual experience. As far as the water pump, my '01 Tahoe with 5.3 has the original water pump and 178k miles. I bought a new one from GM and carry it with me all the time. Kind of wondering how long it can go.

Been checking out the performance trucks sight on how to swap out the truck manifold for a ls1/ls6. Im almost positive its gonna be too tall so im gonna need to find an intake from somewhere. I think the altenator is gonna be too tall as well. Not as worried about the motor mounts found several templates so i can fabricate them. I may be able to just find a vette altenator bracket since it is over the top of the PS pump like the truck but unlike the fbody. who knows!

If you are going to use a car manifold, I'm pretty sure you need a car waterpump.

If you are using a car manifold (LS1, Ls6, etc), you can't run the truck accessories. Its more than just a water pump difference. The best thing to do would be to buy accessories/brackets from a passenger car application, or go aftermarket if $ is no object.

Just for future reference. You can use the truck altenator with the fbody bracket. Found that out on ls1tech. I dont think you can use the truck PS pump though. Im trying to find a good deal on an ls1/6 intake now. Just gonna get the fbody water pump from advance. Anyone running a clutch fan on an ls motor?

My '01 Tahoe has a clutch fan. I belive '00-'03? trucks/Suburbans/Tahoes have clutch fans while all 'Vettes and '04? up trucks have electric fans.

Im gonna try my best to document this swap..always get caught up in doing my projects..but i have a good camera this time around so maybe i can post some pics..I should go ahead and just do a cam swap while everything is out of the car..but i figure its best to deal with it stock before i got tearing into the motor.. Do most of the lsx swap guys do their own tuning or send it off to someone like speartech?

I had Speartech reprogram my ecm and I bought the harness from him. John is a real nice guy and will talk to you anytime. My ls1 has been in my 73 for 21/2 years with no major problems. The engine fired up on first try.You can't go wrong with Speartech in my opinion. You will love the power and gas mileage from the newer engine. Good luck with your swap.Charlie

I didn't have any tuning done. Just the stock 99 Camaro tune.

Do the cam and heads now while the motor is out. I did my swap 6 years ago and have yet to do the heads and cam that I wanted to do originally.

Once you get it running, you won't want to tear it apart.

I actually don't have a pre-filter right now. I think it sounds like a good idea and I'll probably add one in the near future. There is an incredible amount of fuel flowing from the tank to the pump, so make sure you get a high volume one.
