Default manual transmission and differential lube 1972

any recommendations on a certian brand of gear oil lube for a 1972 manual transmission and posi track rear end? i have ordered the gm differential and posi tract additive already , just wasnt sure on the transmission if one was better than another. or if you should introduce synthetic lube such as made by redline. i would think not but wasnt sure

After I rebuilt my tranny and rear end, I used the fluids recommended by Chevy. I figured if they worked for 36 years that was good enough for me.

MY '72 muncie was refilled with straight 30 weight synthetic engine oil, and then it shifted SO much smoother and slicker than before....and lasted about 3 years when I went overdrive auto for needing the o/drive....

the diffy, I am convinced would be just as happy with the GM additive and syn engine oil.....

as it's what I used for years in a solid axle car, GM clutch posi....

90 wt gear oil in the Muncie and Lucas 85-140,non-sythetic, gear oil with a bottle of GM additive in the diff.

You might look into the Redline Manual Transmission fluid for the tranny. I swiched about a year ago from Mobil 1 syn gear lube to Redline's tranny fluid and it made a world of a difference in my Richmond 5 speed. The improvement in how the syncro's worked was immediately noticable.

I drained the rear about a year ago and added the GM products. No noise at all back there!
