Default 700r4 and stall converter ?'s

I took the vette to the shop, and I found out that the transmission is shot. I was planning on gettin the 700r4 but not this soon. When I talked to my mechanic he didn't know how it could run without a computer...I didn't know either..so thats my first question.
What is a stall converter and how do I know which one to choose?
Has anyone tried the 2004r transmission on their c3? I saw something about that on BTO's site and their site for the 2004r is down so I couldn't get any information on it. thanks -B

Look up Bow-tie Overdrive's website, they sell a complete kit for the 700R4 and you can get the torque converter from them. The trans. is controlled through the TV cable that runs from you're carb throttle lever to the trans.

The TH200-4r and TH700-r4 do not require a computer. TV cable to handle downshifts, vacuum switch or toggle switch to handle torque converter lockup brake pedal switch for unlock. TH200-4r is almost a direct fit for the TH400. You will need a yoke from a TH350, Powerglide or manual transmission, your TH400 yoke wont work. TH700-r4 is a little more work, and you have to trim the driveshaft, and replace the yoke also.
Steve Holmes will sell you a tough rebuilt 200-4r for about what most chain transmisson shops will charge to rebuild your old one.

I run a stock 86 Corvette convertor on my 700r4. It stalls about 2400 rpm and has full lockup capability. Remanufactured they are about $70.

Give Steve a call, he's a nice guy and really helpful, be prepared to answer lot's of questions so he can help you decide what would be best for your application. I just got a delivery today from them, new braided tranny lines, HD 2400 convertor, TV setup, new speedo gears. I had a local shop build my 700r4 and have the BTO crossmember. I love seeing the UPS guy in front of the house! :D
