Default Rocker Channel Removal

Well a body mount replacement has turned into rockers and floor pans!

I have the body off, not sure where to begin? Does the fiberglass over the rocker have to come off?

I have the body supported by 4x4's under the floor pans and at the nose. Now that I look at it, I have blocked my work area! So my thought was repair rockers re-support @ rocker then the floor? I dont think I have any other choice. Im gonna post some pics, so you guys can see where im at any other ideas?

Still waiting on the floors but I was hoping to get started just need some advice!

Any pics? most old posts the pics are gone! Also do I need to remove fiberglass at the front and rear of rocker?

consider using the rocker channel inserts that zip sells. clean up the existing channels and then slide the inserts into position, then plug weld the inserts to what ever remains of the original rockers. did this on my current project (and used a #2 body mount inserts also) and it was an easy, effective repair.

I replaced my rockers with the "rocker channel repair kit".
I did not remove any fiberglass but you have to be careful welding in the new inserts so you don't over heat the FG around it.

Is it necessary to lift the body to install that kit? How about just the #2 mount reinforcement?

The old ones were so rusty on mine I removed them completely. I feel the body should be on a dolly for this project as it is a lot of work to drill/grind/chisel out the old ones and you need space to get at them. Here is my original post...

My rockers were still solid enough to weld the inserts to. The real problem area was #3. You don't know just how bad it is until you remove the fiberglass access plate and poke around. The tell tale would be if you see a rot hole or bulging rust from the bottom of the rocker within a few inches of the #3 mount hole. If you do you need to give the #3 mount a good look. I found my driver side was completely broken off. I had to cut out the rot and then rebuild with new steel before I could install the #3 inserts. I dont know how guys weld the #3 inserts in solid without removing the fiberglass access plate in the wheel well. If your gona fix it.... do it right.

The #2 inserts are fun to weld as you have to be a contortionist to bend around with the helmet and gear.

I recommend have the body off the frame for this job as you simply need plenty of room to work around in there. Lots of on your back time and hate welding upside down. Get the body up in the air as far as you can to make it easier.

See my profile for pictures of my rockers. I have about 24 just for the rockers.

I was wondering how you plug welded the new rocker to the old one without melting the fg rocker channel covers?...
