Neutral Safety Switch....where is it located??
Today when I went to start the beast, nothing happened....no clicking...nothing when I turned the key. With the key in the"ON" postion, I moved the auto transmission to "NEUTRAL" and it started right up. So that tells me, the Neutral Safety Switch is about to give up the ghost. Which leads me to ask....WHERE IS THE SWITCH LOCATED AND HOW DO YOU CHANGE IT OUT??

The backup lights working properly is "nice"...but the primary function of the switch is to assure that the car CANNOT be started in any transmission range other than Neutral or Park.

I disabled my Muncie neutral safety switch long ago. But I'm curious about this auto switch. Assuming that it's positioned correctly, how is it possible to work in neutral but not park?

It's just a switch that moves with the shift lever. There are raised areas molded into the part body that activate that switch when it is positioned in Neutral and Park.

2 sets of contacts, the park position contacts get used 99.9% of the time, neutral contacts not so much.

Got the new switch Thursday from ZIP and installed it today and it works perfectly. The only problem I had was getting my hands to function like I wanted them to, in the small space of the console.
