"Carfax" for pre 1981 c3's?
Does anyone know of a way to look at c3's vin history?
Carfax will not accept our pre 1981 (17 character) vin's
Im afraid my 78 has been "put together", the frame looks doctored.
The cross-member bar in the center of the car is bolted on, (two bolts on each side) Is that normal?
I think i was ripped off.
Im going to work on posting some pics for ya'lls input.

State and Provincial Departments of Motor Vehicles can often produce ownership records from the VIN. It varies by locale I understand. I have the history of my 1979 going back to December of 1978 when it was first licensed. Cost me about $10.00 to get the computer print-out.
C3s with automatic transmissions have the bolt-on cross-member. Here is a peek at mine.

Thanks Man, that help a lot. That's exactly what mine looks like.
I looked at the Texas Dept of transportation web site, couldn't find any info, but I will call them on Tuesday to find out.
I am most concerned about the rear of my car, some of the welding spots have a "honey-comb" look to them.
Also, one of the letters on the vin looks like it was "smudged" when it was stamped, luckily, it was the 7th character, and that happens to be the assembly location, which has to be an "S", though, when I got it insured and inspected, it was taken as a 6, which put up the "VIN not found" flag.

Thanks man, that matches the cheat sheet ive got too.
Im gettig ready to send my rear wheel bearing assemblies to Yogi Bairs to be rebuilt.
I have a 1978 corvette, and need the Rear wheel bearing replaced. The
problem im running into is that it seem s that the local corvette shops
assume that because you have a corvette, you are independently wealthy!
They are asking about 350 buck per side to replace the bearing and the
races. I just did a 1100 brake job on my vette, only to discover that my
RWB is causing my spindle to move, and destroy the caliper's rubber seals!
Both rear rotors are brand new, and have 0 miles on them.
Can any of you give me an estimate on rear wheel bearing replacement for my car? Bairs list 150 per side, is that a "reality" price?
The right side spindle "pumps" in and out a bit, should I assume that it
will need replacing as well?
