Default Side pipe mufflers

What is the best side pipe muffler inserts? I am looking for fairly loud and free flowing but not so loud that I cant talk in the car on the highway. 1976 sbc, 10:1 cr, cam, hooker side mount headers.

thanks,
Mike

I have run all three Hooker inserts. The Max Flows are very loud, but the car performs well. The reverse flows are just too restrictive for a high HP motor. But they are much easier on the ears.

I took the car to Lightning and my friend who is a certified instructor was trying to help me. You slide an ear piece and microphone into your helmet. There were times we just could not hear each other. They Max Flows are that loud.

I have come to the following conclusions. Please note, these are subjective comments: I would love to buy every insert and then measure the disciple limits and put it on a dyno to test HP. So my theory is NOT dyno tested:

Hooker Quiet side pipes:
The Quietest and the most restrictive

Hooker Glass Pak:
Louder and less restrictive

Sweet-Thunder 2” insert:
Similar to above

Sweet-Thunder 2.25” insert:
Louder and less restrictive than 2”

Sweet-Thunder 2.5” insert
Louder and less restrictive than 2.25

Spiral Turbo Baffles (undrilled)
About the same a the 2.5 above

Hooker 4” Max Flow:
Louder and less restrictive than above

Spiral Turbo Baffles (drilled):
Louder and less restrictive than Max Flow

Open Tubes:
Loudest and least restrictive
One of the few with data:

BTW: I went to the www.burnsstainless.com site. This is what they sent me:
The price for a set of sidepipes comprised of a 4-1/2” OD muffler (21” body), a 4” inlet, 2-1/2” outlet with a turnout would be $1279. The sidepipes will slip over your 4” collector and be finished with a 2-1/2” OD turnout. The OAL would be around 28”
A 4” turnout could be put on if you wanted at an extra cost. Please let me know how I can be of further assistance.

Anyone ever use Burns? I hear they make works of art.

I just purchased the vette paks from classic chambered exhaust. they sound great when you get on it, great sound and not too loud. driving they calm down but as soon as you hit the throttle you know it. they are 2 1/2 open straight through. I'm very pleased with them. check out his web site you can get a sample of them on a 76. or email me and ill send you an audio file.

mine are on a stock 350 with hooker headers and 4 inch side pipes
