Default Suv all weather tires?

Ok so BMW, Porsche,Audi and other's make SUV'S that will do 140 mph on all weather low profile 17,18,19 and 20 inch tires. Why would you not want to use same all weather tires on your vette?
It seem that your choices are summer tires that dont do well in the rain or water or winter tires that are not so great for performance driving.
Anybody have thoughts?

Well for one thing "all weather" tires are rare and for the most part only made in Truck sizes "all season" tires on the other hand are common and made in every size imaginable. The problem with an all season tire is that it does a little of everything and nothing well.A performance rated tire will kick its butt in the warm weather and a winter will absolutely destroy it when the temprature drops below 50 degrees ( 7 celsius).Virtually all tires sold in north America are rated as all season includeing Goodyear eagle gt,s.I really dont know anybody in Canada that drives any Corvette in winter anyway and I would assume its pretty much the same in The northern U.S. as well.Sorry for any confusion in this post its really early here.Cheers Eric p.s. let me know if you would like any further clarification.

most summer tires do extremely well in the rain. And who drives their Corvette in the snow any more?

You could do a high performance all season also. I have the new Eagle Gts on my daily driver and they are great in snow, wet and dry

So, do you intend to drive your Corvette in snow, ice and heavy rains?

I don't drive my vette in bad weather, so I run Nitto NT555 Extreme Performance tires. But on my Acura TL, which I use all year round in NJ, I run Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires.

When i first got my vette, it came with studed tires and a block heater. At 180 horse it actually did ok on the ice. Now i dont get traction in the rain at all.

mike80 these are light truck highway cruising tires for a quiet ride and long tread life.they are not for off road.the funny thing is they are rated almost identical in all respects to bf radial t/a's.i have never been off road, yet.

When I saw m/s I pictured knobby off road tires and I thought it might have been some of your humor.

Are they wearing normal?

That is correct-Ultra High Performance Summer only tires are actually VERY good in the rain, hindered by temperatures below 40 degrees due to the rubber getting hard with extreme cold temperatures. The tread and rubber of an ultra high performance tires is designed to be run at high speed in the wet and will outperform an A/S in the rain at high speeds. A/S tires don't do anything well as noted above.

Just picked up Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s for my new wheels (Supposed to be close to best of the best). But car won't be together for quite a while.

...Agreed on above. All seasons handle all conditions OK, but summer / winter tires handle their respective great. No reason not to put summer tires on the vette.

All good comments.
I dont plan on driving in the snow, but it does get below 50 degrees very often here in New Mexico, as well as summer rain storms.
I was exploring the SUV tires in an effort to have a good tire that would be safe in the rain and cold.Looking at the SUV tires, the specs seemed to be identical to the summer sport performance tires but with the "all weather below 50 degree" use OK.
I really just want to be sure Iam not going to be floating all over the road if it rains, and that the tires wont be destroyed from extended cold weather driving.
I will probably end up with something Nitto as I am putting 18 X10 rims on the rear and a large 295-45-18 tire.
Oh hell , throw rubber to the wind and go with a drag radial

i study the tire tests by consumer reports. A TOP rated all season tire performs as good as an average UHP tire.
Since the UHP tires are not available in 15", i pick the all season tire that impresses me in their test. These tires are modern designs with a max 44psi. Mine weigh 11# LESS than the BFG TA that i took off. This cuts 2/10 sec. off 0-60mph. SO watch the weight on an SUV or truck tire. If it weighs more, i'd avoid it.
