Default 1973 Vapor Canister

I'm attempting to replace the vapor canister in my 73 that was removed before I bought the car. I have purchased the correct canister and mounting bracket. When I went to install it, it looks like the fender where its supposed to mount to has been cut away, and there is supposed to be a tray that spans between the frame and the fender wall that is apparently no longer there. Can anyone out there with a 73 take a photo of what is supposes to be there on a correct car? (The shot would be looking up from under the car, just behind the driver's side front wheel). Thanks-

Changed the filter on my 73 vapor canister about a month ago. Here are 2 pics; let me know if you need more:

Hi jw,
The canister mounts in a sheet steel bracket which in-turn mounts to the rear wall of the inner fender apron. It mounts the canister a few inches above the splash shield shown in B73S's picture. You should see some unused holes in the apron since the canister was installed on every 73.
Regards,
Alan

You can see the bracket in this picture. It mounts to the apron with 3 bolts.

Fran and Allan, really appreciate your posts. Allan, From your photo, I can see I have the correct canister and mounting bracket. Fran, can you take a shot of where the canister bracket screws into the fender? I'm also missing the splash shield, but I can see its not essential to the installation of the vapor canister, so at least that mystery is solved.

I have one hole about 4 inches below the windshield wiper fluid bottle, and then a little below that, the fender is cut away. It was done so cleanly, it looks like it was done at the factory, but I suspect it was an alteration made after the car was in a wreck.I'll try to post a shot of what I'm looking out tomorrow. Thanks-

Default Thanks Fran

Fran, Thanks for posting the image. Now that I can see the bolt pattern, its cleat that my fender wall was cut away at some point. I'd post the photo, but can't figure out how to do it. It's listed in my albums. I'm going to lay in a piece of fiberglass to extend the fender and then drill the bottom tow bolt holes. This was a huge help. Also, your car looks great. Love the blue paint. Thanks for your help.

You are welcome and thanks for the compliment
In the C3 General Section, there is a Sticky on how to post pictures from Photobucket.
Good Luck!
Fran
