Default Steering Link spring loaded ball joint

Doing the font suspension on my 1969 Corvette Convertible 350. After removing the steering linkage arm, I notices a spring loaded ball joint on the driver's side that attaches to the pitman arm. Can someone tell what this is and what this does? Also how to recondition this piece since I am replacing everything else?

Default Steering Linkage - 69 convert.

TimAT, thank you for the info... now I'm really puzzled. We've got a manual steering gearbox. Humm.. I wonder if any of the other owners before us did some creative parts swaping. So if this is suppose to be a manual steering system that 'spring loaded' ball joint on the linkage arm shouldn't be there?

The gearbox is still manual. There is the control valve and hoses, attached to a ram that gives the assist. I've not seen a manual system to know for sure if the pitman arm is connected to the other link with the same style spring link.
Ecklers' has listed a replacement end link for the relay rod that appears to have that spring loaded end- for a manual steering system.

TimAT, Thank you... I'll check out Eklers listings and see what they've got.

Is this what your looking at? If so, you can purchase a rebuild kit and rebuild it yourself.

I'd go with Willcox-- less $$ and way better service.
