WARNING, aftermarket fuel hoses!!
As you know I am building my 496 engine with a blower and fuel injection. I installed the new AN-10 and AN-8 lines with new fittings and the tested for leaks, none, A few weeks latter I went into my garage and smelled a heavy fuel smell, I opened the doors to vent the fumes, pressure tested the lines and found NO leaks.
I did find that the gas fumes where coming through the lines itself, I mean that I could smell gas through the stainless braid, and I am talking about ALL the fuel lines. The first An hoses I bought where the Summit Racing Hi pressure stainless steel covered hoses, I used these many times before with zero issues. I sent them back to summit racing and wrote it off as more CHINA crap. I then got Russell Proflex hose thinking a brand name would help, but again after three weeks I started to get fuel vapor smell again,
After some research and phone calls I found out that the additives our government is putting in gas today is eating away the best fuel hoses out there. The only hose that works they say is the PTFE lined hose.
Not many companies make fuel hose with PTFE lined inner core and the ones that do the hose is not safe for fuel because of static electricity build up. so my project is on hold.
The real bad thing is that Russell, Earls and the other hose makers know of this problem but are still selling the hoses!

Sounds like a disaster just waiting to happen. The only bright spot on all of this is you found out about it before a fire ensued.

Same thing happened to me-I plumbed my whole car and had to pull everything in favor of teflon hoses.
It's all the ethanol they are putting in pump gas these days-it permeates right through the rubber.
Of course the PTFE hoses cost a FORTUNE.
You can still use the rubber based stuff for other things on the car.

I used hardline with only short runs of Braided S/S at each end. No smell noticeable.
But if I had to do it again, I would use the OEM plastic lines and fittings. Not sure if they make anything bigger than 3/8" though.

There are a group of us in my area with vintage vettes that will only fill up at Shell stns using their premium as it has no ethanol in it. I started putting the same Shell premium in both my lawnmower and snowblower the past few years as i was having issues with both using regular gas with ethanol.
When i do a resto on my '72 I'll go with the teflon lined hoses just to be safe.

Gates new 5-layer fuel lines are supposed to work well for E-85, Methanol, Ethanol, etc...

Can buy it at Amazon and other places.
EDIT:
Some sellers have the Barricade Fuel hose real cheap at eBay.

I gotta say...mine has been plumbed with the same line for years now and it's had nothing but pump gas in it. Never a smell or seep yet.

in the front due to heat and stuff, over top of the headers, I have Aeroquip hose, from a commercial hose company nearby....been on there for years now....it is steel wrapped and double clamped with the type clamps that use a nut/bolt and are full surround....

A buddy of mine dropped did a 69 camaro with and LS-1 and used Russel lines throughout. He had the same problem and wound up tearing the out and having to hardline with stainless. Blew about $800 on worthless fuel lines and fitting.

Most of my fuel system (EFI) is hard line. For the short sections of hose I use FI-rated regular black hose from the auto parts store. It's ethanol compatible with an inner teflon liner (blue). I've had this fuel system for over 10 years, never had any leaks.

My lines are all stainless except for a couple 2 ft runs
I used Goodridge hose. Cars been on the road for 2 yrs and 0 issues wiht the fuel problem. Its awful thick so keep that in mind. Good stuff
Google Orme Bros in Reseda Ca they got a good supply and are reasonable
BTW the pushlock fittings are awesome no clamp needed ever

I've decided to plumb fuel systems in Nylon/Teflon hose only from here on out. Too many horror stories of vapor leakage problems with todays fuel mixes. For people in SF Bay area, Allen Steel in Redwood city has plenty of cheap Teflon braided line at scrap prices, the stuff is used at SF airport repair terminals, and all the stuff I have used over the years has never given me problems.

Same thing with my summit nylon braided hose, noticed a fuel smell after a month or so. Only used a short peice and gonna replace it wiht alum line before I get it out again.
Still kinda sucks I got fittings and some line I bought for another car that I can't use now.
