Default defference between 350/300 and 350/350

What are the differences between the base 350/300 and the 350/350 as far as internal and external components?

higher compression, different cam, forged versus cast internals, different heads, etc. Go to this link, select corvette and than select 1969, it will give you all the details

Hi 55,
I think part of the L-46 option was a bigger smile for the owner to wear too. I believe it was one of the items in the owner's packet.

Same casting number cylinder heads, L46 had 2.02 intake valve and base motor had 1.94. L46 had open element air filter for 1970. Not sure of 1969.

This is over simplifying things, but basically, the L46 used the same bottom end as the LT-1, with a hydraulic camshaft. 4-bolt mains, forged crank, pink rods, forged pistons at 11:1 compression ratio, etc. The 300 HP version was the same engine you could get in a station wagon, 2-bolt mains, cast crank and pistons, lower compression, smaller cam. I believe the L46 was the only optional small block you could order in 1969, standard engine being the 300 HP station wagon engine.

It was the base engine in the 'vette, and probably an extra cost option on the station wagon, if that makes you feel any better. Probably a different RPO, too, but essentially the same engine. But hey, it's a small block chevy. Souping up a SBC is as easy as falling in love.

If you remember station wagons, you're old. If you remember having a station wagon, you're real old!

At least for MY '69, the base engine had 4 bolt mains. The RPO for it was ZQ3.

I'll go out on a limb and say all the early C3s had four bolt mains.

'69 Chevelle 4 door 350/300 hp was four bolt also, pretty sure they were all four bolt, 10.25 compression cast pistons. Corvettes and trucks may very well have all been steel/forged cranks, may have all been steel cranks in 300hp and up . (my memory is getting too old to remember).

'70 and earlier they were worried about having warranty issues so they used alittle more beef in the lower-end. With the lower compression of '71 & on they didn't have those concerns and the engineers were now busy with
emissions.

Making the SBC go fast is also cheaper than falling in love and the SBC will not drive off with it's internet boyfriend and take half your **** !!!

The 350/300 is a good starting point

My wife hates station wagons because she had to ride around in one as a teenager...yet she drives an SUV which in my mind is nothing but a station wagon with big wheels....

I always had to sit in the last seat that faced the oncoming traffic choking on gas fumes

Also, I thought that Corvettes always came with four bolt mains - no?

If you know what station wagons were and can tell people about them, you're old too.
