Power steering pump outlet hose ?
Hi. I'm just hooking up my new hoses to the power steering pump for my '79 and the outlet hose is very long. Is there a specific reason it comes in this length, for performance reasons, or can I chop it off to suit the distance better? Is there a minimum length as well or just common sense?

Just remember that the hoses go the the control valve that will move
as you turn your wheel. If you make it too short, it will bind.

If you're referring to the low pressure RETURN hose (a little larger, generally smooth appearance and one end is not terminated with a fitting) then yes, cut where needed.

The return hose is taped to the pressure line on the back of the pump. Use the pressure line as a gauge of length
