Correct/good speedo lube ?
Can anyone tell me the best lube for the very small metal gears in a 69 speedo? Not the cable lube. It's for the gears that operate the odometer. I have been told everything from graphite to vasoline. Thanks in advance.

*Very* few people do this task. Willcox Corvette does. You will have to disassemble the speedometer and clean all the old grease off to do it. You can't just push new stuff in.

I have contacted Roger Scott regarding speedo parts. He is the guy that does all of Corvette Centrals speedo work. His business is Corvette Instrument Service in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. He sold me the gear that I need to make the odometer function correctly. I installed it without a hitch but wanted to lube all the gears. Not much lube left after 40 something years!!! Besides, it is metal to metal gears. The grease he recommended is called Red Lightning lube. I have just left him a message to find out the exact TYPE of lube that is since I cannot find that brand. I will keep you posted as to what I find out. And yes, I try to be thourough in anything I try to accomplish. Why do something half $%^ and why pay an outrageous price for a service when you can do it yourself!!?? Besides, I enjoy making things work, not just shelling out the money to make it work.
