Default oil pan ?

I am swapping a bb in my vette started thinking about the oil pan. I have a chevelle pan for the motor now witch I think is a four quart pan. the bb vette's had a five quart pan I believe. so my question is do I need the vette pan? what is the benefit of and aftermarket oil pan would it be better to go that route?

Are you sure the Chevelle pan fits, typically they dont because of the steering mechanism/cross member

Try getting a Corvette LS-6 oil pan. Don't know if they're still available from GM, I got mine some years ago. It's a great piece: trap door as well as slosh plates.

Best buy on pans IMHO is the Milodon stuff - they're pretty clear about which ones clear the Corvette crossmember - and they're clean and straight. Keep in mind that the oil pump pickup needs to match the pan.

I had a Milodon pan. Maybe they make better models, but this one was crap. No trap door or baffling and whenever I got hard on the brakes I had zero oil pressure!

I had a milidon at one point in time as well, nothing special and I switched to an Aviaid Corvette specific 7 quart pan. I also like the Canton pans, they are top notch as well.

You just needed a "REAL" Milodon pan! I've got the 31188 and it works great. Hangs a little low...about even with scattershield..but only gets smacked once in a while.

The GM LS-7 Pan and pickup are good pans also. They make good power and control oil well.

Sounds like just the wrong pan, or the wrong placement/type of pickup - on a deep-sump pan you'd have to have some serious slosh to get ZERO oil pressure.

They have stock, street and strip pans - if you're autocrossing or something similar, then the hard-core pans are the way to go. Canton's are really nice as well. Generally, I just don't recommend going to the work of trying to source an OEM pan.

That Moroso works well. I "believe" it will clear Vette steering...but you need to ck around to be sure if there is a PS ram in the mix.

I have had this 6 quart pan on my 468 and now on the 540. Fits manual steering fine, but don't know about PS. This part number is for a block with a 2 piece rear main seal. There's a different part number for the same basic pan, but with the one piece rear seal.

If you plan to go bigger in the future, this pan works with a 4.25" stroke.
