Interesting Penetrating oil Test
Some info from another forum that I found:
Penetrating Oils Compared
Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break
out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results! They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.
Penetrating oil .......... Average load
None ..................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................... 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............... 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ............ 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............... 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix............ 53 pounds
The Automatic Transmission fluid (ATF)-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mixof 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.
Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this
one particular test.
A local machinist group mixed up a batch and all now use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is aboutas good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.

I'm going to give that a shot on a set of 427 AIR tubes that have never been unbolted from the exhaust manifolds since 1969....

I saw these test results on speed talk quite some time ago. Never thought it would be of that much interest to share it.

I have a busted off harmonic balancer bolt to get out of a V6. tomorrow I may well give the freeze-off its test, wd 40 did nothing to help.

It's very interesting. I'd like to do some tests myself but my '74 is a California car and hasn't had a stuck bolt yet
But thanks for the tip
I WILL remember it !!!

Since you don't need a large quantity, nail polish remover is much cheaper. Nail polish remover is usually a mixture of acetone and ethyl acetate (B.P. 77*C) and should work as well, or better.
