What kind of cam?
I posted this in the engine mods section but things are kinda slow over there, whatcha think?
Now that I have a rolling chassis, I am starting on the engine and I need some opinions on what type of cam to get. Here is what I am in the process of putting together:
383 with 5.7 inch rods/KB hyper pistons
GM vortech heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, springs good to 0.500
performer RPM intake (most likely)
Holley 650 or 750 ( I have both)
1 5/8 headers
3:36 rearend
M20 4 speed
I have thought about a CC XE274 or a CC280H but really not sure. I will not drive this car much and street manners are not of too much of a concern. Most likely street only with occasional binges in the 6000+ RPM range.
I appreciate any thoughts you folks might have. Thanks

What kind of HP do you want? Do you want a lopey idle? Also, what's the max lift your heads can handle?

Re: What kind of cam? (burners)
I would like to target the 400 HP range which I think this combo might get, and a lopey idle would be nice but not a necessity. The current springs could can handle max 0.500 lift.

Re: What kind of cam? (DVG73)
Larger engines like a stroker engine can get away with using a larger cam. IMHO the XE274 should work fine with the 383. The 280H should be fine with your 383, but I'm not so sure with the 3.36 gears. Maybe someone else can chime in.
I have the Edelbrock RPM cam in my 355 and even with the 3.90 gears I think the cam may be a bit too big. I love the idle and the mid-upper rpm power, but it lacks at lower rpms. I'm considering maybe the 280H for myself.
