If we're going to get pedantic about terminology, it's a 'damper'.

'HT' was used in '68 as well as '65, '66 and '67 but NOT a '69 Corvette .

Correct terminology aside, I know what you're referring to but this is not correct to write "all." The 265 and the 283 used only a crank hub without a damper.

If we're going to get really correct, it's a dampner, but that's old school and most now just leave the "n" out.

If we want to really really be correct there is no such word in the English language, but it's usually unpossible to convince people of that.

HT is correct for a 68 327 350hp with 4 speed. You're correct on Flint May 22. VIN #20487 from the previous pic jives with late May 1968 production.

No need to make the OP nervous over the pad stamps.

Some engine shops balance the cranks with flywheel and balancer in place. It depends on the way they want to balance things. It's harder for shops without the different mandrels to balance a flywheel and clutch seperatly.

I know because I had to have my 0 balance flywheel and clucht rebalanced because of a vibration. Although the flywheel and clutch were both supposed to be 0 balance, they were out 11 grams causing a serious vibration.
I asked for several shops around here to do a seperate balance job, but they didn't have the mandrels, saying they normally balance the crank with the flywheel and balancer in place.

I finally went to a specific balance shop. He confirmed it but could balance the items seperatly because he had the mandrel lying around.

So I think they external balanced dampner means nothing.

No idea how you can check without taking the pan off.

Stay away from these places.
