Big Block water pump for Cloyes aluminum timing cover
I'm looking for information on water pump fitment vs. the Cloyes Quick Button Two-Piece Timing Cover 9-231:
http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...-231/overview/
I tried the old water pump from the old motor ("30926-1" stamp).
The lower two bolts need to be almost ground completely off.
I've heard I can't use an aluminum pump or a high volume pump, is that correct?
Anyone using the Cloyes cover and found a pump that fit reasonably well?

8852 (8862 for polished)
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/...formance.shtml
I Actually used the 8850 standard short pump (only because I found a used one) but needed to machine an adapter to use the stock pulleys

I guess I would need the 8850 model (for the 5/8" pilot diameter, mine is a 1969 model)?
I'm hoping that one also has the countersunk bolts, because the one shown in the video on the Summit site doesn't have countersunk bolts!
Not a single picture on the interweb showing the rear of the pump!

Actually I think I screwed up, I must have the 8850 since the 8851 I listed is a long pump
The pump back is countersunk bolts as in my pictures.
The spacer I made was to bring the 5/8 guide up to 3/4 and also to move the pulley flange ahead the missing bit for the vette (about .1 longer)
I'll triple check the number tonight (stamped on the rear but visible with a mirror)

I have the Cloys cover and Edelbrock pump on my 454. Yes, it works. I did have to file the cover in two spots but it was minor. Just be sure to dry fit the cover and pump and you'll see the spots (it's the flange).

Thanks guys, that was very nice of you.
I will get the Edelbrock 8850. It's expensive, but I'm sure it is also a better pump. No reason to save a few bucks when I just spent a lot more than that on building a new motor.
