Default side pipe mufflers

Guys
I am new to the forum and new to a corvette. I just picked up a 1979 with an L82. Love the car and after a full inspection I found no rust or bird cage damage. The only issue I found and new when buying it was the original paint was spider webbed. I just had it stripped and found no body damage. The question I have is engine related. What muffler inserts offer the best sound without blowing my wife out of the car. I just purchased OBX headers and pipes. Thanks

i hope you bought them without inserts . that makes it easier. i bought sweet thunder 2.5" inserts and i like them and my friends like them but some women think they are very loud.fact is most women think a new cadillac is loud. i think hooker makes the quietest ones i think they are reverse flow. but i think they kill power a good bit.

I did buy them without inserts. In Maine because it is an antique auto I don't have to put anything in them but I think that may even a little to loud for me.

if your neighbors live 8 miles away they will complain, that would be loud. good luck and welcome to the forum.

Because you actually did not write it...and let it open to interpretation.

Are you doing engine work on a body that has had the paint stripped off of it???? and still is stripped off???

I have vettpacks in mine. Do a search on youtube for them. At cruising you can listen to the radio or carry on a conversation. But when you step on it they will get a little loud.

The engine and tranny are out and being worked on by and engine builder. The paint is now completely removed and being prepped for paint. All paint and body will be done before we put the engine back in. I am in the process of buying all the parts that I want on the car after paint

I had a BB C3 'vert a few years back... should never have sold the car.

I had Hooker side-mount headers on it, and originally had the Hooker muffler inserts... and they were the "performance" ones that were 2" straight through. Absolutely killed performance.

Went with the JCL Spiral Turbo baffles. Performance was excellent, and the sound wasn't nearly as brutal as running them with no inserts/baffles (which was "nail through the ears" loud). I'd highly recommend these. Not the cheapest, but easy install and performance was as advertised.

Good luck!

Another vote for Classic Chambered Vettepacks. You can easily hear the radio, but they sound awesome at full throttle.

Idle:

Full throttle [windows up]:

Spiral baffles here in hooker side mounts. Great sound, little to no performance loss.

Default inserts

Do you rec hooker pipes with std baffles? I'm leaning towards that option.

Those aren't the "performance" ones, especially with a big block. The performance ones are Max Flo's and they are 2-1/2" straight through and do not hurt performance at all.

I have the Max Flows. Yes, 2 1/2" straight through and has a nice deep tone.
