Default 76 Need Help Unlocking and Opening Door on 76

I can't unlock or open drivers door on my 76.

Last couple times I opened the door the outer door handle felt like it didn't have a spring in it. There was almost no resistance.

Other night I locked the door. Now I can't unlock the door using the key or by turning the **** inside the car. I can only turn the **** or key about 1/8 turn.

I can't open the door using the outer door handle or the inner door handle.

Can I open the door using a screw drver to actuate the latch mechanism if the door is locked? Oreo I have to get the door unlocked first.

Any ideas? Is it possible to get the door panel off with the door shut, without destroying the door panel?

Thanks

Roger

As long as I can get your window down...I will be in your car in 15 seconds or less.

The PROBLEM you are having is stuck/binding linkages....or broken clips causing the rods from the door handle not to work correctly.

Roger, another possibility is if your outside door handle is sagging, it won't unlock. Try pulling the outer handle up, then unlock.

Outer handle is not sagging. But it has no resistance when I push it down, until I have it mashed about 95% of the way, then I can feel it trying to open the door.

Roger,
I would put money on the fact that either a clip is broke and the rod is off....or the SPECIAL clip that goes on the rod at the handle is broke and the rod is pinched. Can be a broken handle also...but usually it is the clip(s).

Dub,

Just to clarify, even with door locked, I can push down on the plate in the photo (referenced thread) and door will open?

Thanks

I got it open by pushing down with a long screwdriver like Dub said.

Turns out the linkage between the outer handle and the door mechanism had partially came unhooked. Put it back, oiled everything and back in business. Thanks for everyone's help.

Roger...you are aware that there is a special clip that is used at the handle attachment area...and another on the latch. IF you do not have the special clip at the handle....it WILL do it again....if when you looked at it....the rod had slid into the bracket of the handle. Also...this clip only goes ON ONE WAY CORRECTLY.

The clip at the handle area.
