Default Quick Painless Engine Swap

Gents,

I am running an original engine in my '81 and was curious if anyone had a recommendation on a new motor I could swap it with that would require little to no fabrication. Obviously looking for a serious upgrade in HP.....

Thanks,
Ross

A well built 383 is the best bang for the buck!

Ross, when you get your answer let me know. I been debating this issue for years. I want to keep the ccc system but everyone advises not to.

If you need to pass emissions (visual too) not much gains can be had. As said, ditch the CCC....

There are tons of threads on here about swaps. I would be prepared to ditch the CCC and get a good carb or an EX-Fast injection system. Drop in a nice crate Stroker 383 and you will be very happy. no muss no fuss...

The better question is 'how much money do you have to spend on this engine?"...then take your answer and ADD 25%...that is now your budget. Now tell us your budget and we will tell you what kind of upgrades you can get. I know this sounds terribly simple and almost patronizing, but I assure you it makes sense.

For 400 bucks you can add a carb and a intake.
For 600 you can add carb, intake, cam and headers.....
For about 1400 you can add the above AND add a set of HEADS!
For about 2K you can get a decently worked 350 to just drop in.
For around 3500 you can get a 383....

You see how this goes? There are cheaper ways to work on a budget, but you REALLY need to establish how much you can spend first.

And dont forget
.......SPEED....RELIABILITY....ECONOMY (least amount of money spent) ....you only get 2
