Default The 76 is winking at me

My vette is running really healthy. She has solid motor mounts and shakes the whole car just a little. Problem is - driver's side headlight door flutters up and down about a 1/16th of an inch at idle. Drives me crazy because it makes alot of noise. The other headlight door doesn't act up at all. My question is - is there a spring under the door that controls these doors, and that might be the problem? Any ideas? If it is how do I replace it? Thanx

Headlight doors operate with a combination of springs, nylon bushings and vacuum, any of which could be contributing to the problem you describe. Springs break, bushings wear and vacuum leaks.

Wilcox has a number of tech schematics, some of which are improvements over the AIM schematics. Look them up and study along with the vacuum documents. Then, disassemble and note any deficiencies in parts that may contribute to the problem. Repair kits can be ordered along with many of the individual parts to make the necessary repairs.

Keep us posted on your progress!

There is an adjustment for that. With the lights open locate the bracket w/2 bolts mounted on the left side of light housing. Follow it down to the end . There is an adjuster/stop at the end. As long as nothing is broken that adjustment /stop will fix the flutter. Have to go up thru the bottom. Good luck

Thanx I'll check this weekend, and if not the adjuster stop , I'll see what Wilcox has to offer.

I replaced all the vacuum hoses last winter with Doc Rebuilds, and worked fine until a month ago

Adjust the stop so there is no gap.
