Default L48 / Dart Heads

1978 L48 rebuilt with 20,000 miles. Eldebrock Performer 2101 intake with Q Jet carb and headers.
Would like to put in cam and heads but for now will have to go with just the heads.
Will eventually put in Comp Cam 268H, what Dart cylinder heads would perform the best with this package?
Since I can only go with the heads for now what kind of low end torque could I expect to see without the cam?

If you have the engine torn down to the point of a head install, you might as well put a cam in it.

I made some dyno runs with a similar set up that may help give you an idea of what to expect.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...mp-xe268h.html

The heads for these results were 60cc 2.02 valve Edelbrock Performer heads and the cam was the XE- 268H. I think the take away here is that the cam will appreciate the extra compression of your new heads.

Well, those aluminum heads cracked and I replaced them with a set of Dart Iron Eagles SS 165cc runners with 67cc chambers and 2.02/1.60 valves.

I went with these iron heads because they were close specs, durable and affordable. I can't complain and don't miss much performance

I bought the heads from Terry Rosebush on ebay and assembled myself.

Hope that helps some.

John

I have those trick flow heads on my 78 with a Howard's cam. Runs pretty strong. Not a 450 hp beast but runs pretty well with 373 gears and. 700 r4 trans.

I don't get it. What's another $200 for cam/lifters?
