Default Where does this part go?

I removed this part decades ago and can't remember where it goes. I'm pretty sure it mounts under a valve cover bolt and 2 spark plug wires are routed in the slots.
1971 454, anyone still have theirs in the factory installed location?

Thanks

Correct for $200.00.
It mounts on the passenger side valve cover bolt.
I mounted mine on the 2nd to last bolt.
It hold the furherst two wires from melting on the exhaust manifold.
I have an AC car.

After doing research, I found information stating what you posted. The 2 wire spark plug wire retainer, GM part #3928902, goes under the 2nd lower bolt on the right side valve cover on 1969 to 1974 BB's.
I have looked at hundreds of pictures of 427 & 454's, but couldn't find one that shows this part installed. I don't remember why I removed it, but it's going back on this week.

I don't think I have this part installed in my car. When you put it back, can you post a picture of it in place?

No way, I didn't doubt you for one second.

Problem is, when I get obsessed with something I can't get over it. I knew this part came on my car from the factory and with all of these "original survivor BB's" around, I thought I could find at least one photo showing this part installed.

I aquired 1 because on my '68 once you put all the AC brackets
back on you got to watch where the front two plug wires lie.
The exhaust manifold is not an option.
Now my wires run along the valve cover, into the mount and down to the front two plugs.
It is a simple design and unctional.
But yeah, if you took it off umpteen years ago I could see where you'd be scratchin your grape wondering where it went.
Kinda like stump the chump C-3 triva.

Here ya go....I also discovered why there are 5 longer valve cover bolts and 9 shorter valve cover bolts. The passenger side gets the longer bolts in position 1, 2, and 3 on the bottom, 1 & 3 for the ground connections for the braided spark plug wires and position 2 for the bracket. The drivers side gets the longer bolts in position 2 and 4 on the bottom for the braided spark plug wire ground connections. The other 9 holes get the shorter bolts.

Awesome, thanks! I will take a look this weekend when I take the next step on my blower motor, but it sure doesn't look familiar!

After looking at hundreds of photos, I finally found a BB with the bracket that shows up in the picture.
Look at the engine photos in this thread and you'll see the bracket and the correct spark plug wire grounds in the correct location on a 1970 BB.

Hi 71,
Looking at the picture of the part made me wonder……
do spark wire looms (of any shape) generally?, typically?, always?, have a rubber component to them?
I'm thinking of some that have rubber inserts, some that are partially made of rubber or plastic, and some are just 'dipped' in rubber.
This one doesn't/isn't…. how rare/unusual is that???
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan, this I can tell you, mine was partially dipped in rubber and painted at the factory. If you look between the plug wires on mine, you can see rubber where some paint came off.

The replacement ones offered at Corvette supply companies are partially dipped in rubber, not painted, and look like the one in the '70 for sale thread I posted, which would be correct to go along with chrome valve covers.

Now I just need to get some braided spark plug wires to make it right so I can sleep at night.

Regards,

Dave

Hi 71,
Well that answers my question!
I thought that was just funkiness at the end of the bracket, not rubber.
I'd expect a rubber 'dip' on a bracket shaped like that's used for it's purpose.

Alan

That link didn't take me anywhere.

Anyway, your picture was excellent, and I think we either discovered something not original on my '70, or a difference between '70 and '71 models. I went to the location in your picture, and found this:

You can see that there is a bracket spot welded to my chrome valve cover to carry those two spark plug wires. I think it is correct that mine are chrome, and yours are painted, but I would be happy to hear from more knowledgeable folks!

You have seen this thread:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ght-coupe.html

My wire guides look exactly like the ones in the pics shown here. I think this is a difference between '70s and '71s.

That was the thread I meant to post, I went back and changed it. Did you see the bracket I'm talking about on the second lower valve cover bolt on the '70 BB in the above thread?

My '71 also has the wire guides on the valve cover along with the bracket on the second lower valve cover bolt.
