Default NOS 1969 4 speed shifter

I purchases a NOS 4 speed shifter assy on Ebay for my 69. The seller advertised that it fit years 64 - 76. After installing I find the shift rods are too short and don't reach the shifter forks. I think I may have been sold a C2 shifter. I see reproduction shifters that state 68 - 76 only.
Can anyone shed some light on differences between the C2 and C3 shifter assys.
Thank you

I checked my extra shifter. The rods are 8 5/8, 13 5/8 and 18 5/8. The shift assembly itself looks like yours.

It is the right shifter. My shifts rods measure about 5/8 shorter on all three. We tried another 69 shifter and the shift rods again appear too short. AND THEY CAME OFF THE CAR!! This mechanic is doing something wrong. Trans is in neutral. Shifter is in neutral and alignment tool is in position.

If the shifter is tilted (by using shims under the the mounting bracket) the rods will not reach the trans. I tilted one backwards too far and had the same problem.

Relayed your info to the "mechanic". He said there were two washers (shims) under the shifter when he removed it. Tried to install without shims and can only attach reverse rod. He wants me to go with a Hurst shifter. Not ready to spend on that when I have a new correct service replacement GM shifter. I have tranny builder looking at it on Monday. Thanks for your help.

Not only do you already have it, it's the best money can buy. My '63 and '64 both had a shifter like yours, and it's excellent. Nice and precise. You need a new mechanic.

The problem was a bent shifter mount.
Car is back home in it's garage.
Thanks for the help.
