1970 Corvette - Steering Column
I recently had to remove the dash to address a windshield wiper issue. Along the way I detached the steering column from bracket and support underneath the dash. Moreover, I discovered the steering wheel spins but does not move the front wheels.
Steering-4 photo shows and piece at the end of the steering column. What is the name of this piece?
Steering-5 shows the component in Steering-4 slipped out about 1/2 inch. I am hoping when I put the dash back together and re-attach the steering column using the bracket and support underneath the dash, it's just a matter of inserting this piece back in its place.

That's a double u-joint and the other is a spherical rod end. Your car has a Steeroids rack and pinion. The shaft floats in the rod end, so that's no problem. What probably happened is the lower shaft below the rod end has come out of the rack. Set screws should hold all that linkage in place, the lower one seems to have come out. The set screws are locked in place with nuts, you can see 2 of them in the photos.
