Hi Al,
Welcome!
First post!!
I use the NCRS Corvette Specification Guide which is for sale on the NCRS site. It's a 165 pages of part numbers, casting codes, and date information.
Another source is the 'Cars & Parts' Catalog of Chevrolet Engine Casting Numbers 1955-1993 and Stamped Numbers. It's full of information too.
You might also try googling the number along with 'GM Starter' and you might find it!
Regards,
Alan
If you can't find the answer post the # and someone will likely be able to help you.

i have been just looking on eBay and emailing to see if the part number is available with a good date. So for the starter I figured that since the final build was March 7, 1973 then I would look for something rebuilt from January or February. I found one from November 25 and another member here agrees that is probably fine. I am lucky I guess that so much already is correct. Not that surprised because when I bought the car last year it had the original non resister plugs in it and I saved them. I am doing the matching thing because it has become fun.
