79 A/C belt noise is driving me nuts!!
When I crank on the A/C in my 79 the belt slaps around and makes a constant growling sound. The system works good but the compressor is a mile away from the pulley. Did they make a idler pulley for the 79s ??
I have tightened this belt to the point that I'm afraid of messing up the bearings in my compressor.

If the belts that tight and you're hearing a growling sound, you might be looking at a compressor problem. Do you have the long (A-6) compressor or the shirt rotary? The A-6 are known to growl a little, but the newer style should run faily quiet.
