Hi, I am looking into buying a 73 Corvette for my dad. Not sure whether to get him the big block or small block or coupe or conv't.
I do know that all the Vettes he's owned in the past (7) have been 350 cars. Can you shed any light on the big block motors??? I've ridden in a 67 BB car and it was unreal.
Thanks in advance.
Do you have any pics of your car??? I'd like to use them as a teaser for him. :yesnod:
My advice would be to buy your dad the best vette you can get for your particular budget. Don't get hung up on SB or BB, coupe or conv., LT-1 or LS-5, buy the best car you can find for the amount you are willing to spend, and that even applies to the year of the car as well. Unless of course you have your heart set on a particular year and model!
I think he is fond of the 73 model year. If I am correct, last year of the chrome.
73 is a good year because it had the chrome on the back (for those who like chrome) and no chrome on the front (for those who don't particularly like chrome!).
If your dad wants an all-around chrome C3, though, you're going to need to look at the 68-72 model years.
I would try to find a BB car, unless it will be driven regularly in traffic. Owning 7 smallbock vettes is special, but I am sure your Dad would appreciate a 'change'. :D '73 is a unique year, and the LS4 is not way overpriced, as some of the earlier 427's are.
Wish I had known earlier that you were looking as a red 73 in excellent condition just sold up here for $12700 cdn. If they are in good to excellent condition up here they go for $10K - $25 k for a bb coupe fully restored with no rust in frame or windows. When I was looking a few years ago found cosmetically great looking cars but absolutely rotten frames. In these parts of Canada a frame check is always a must.
