Rear end for drag racing question
Road racers need not answer :D
I know there is a guy in NHRA running a solid 1-piece conventional rear end in a formerly IRS Vette. And I also know he got the OK from NHRA to do this without being factored into a class that would have him racing cars way faster than him. Does anyone know who this guy is?
Also, anyone know of a place that makes this modification? I'm not looking forward to picking up u-joints every time I go to the strip :D

Re: Rear end for drag racing question (Dep)
I have some good pictures at work of a 9 inch installed in our vets. The worst part is the compartment boxes have to be removed and glassed over to make room for the 4 link. That to me is the worst part of the whole swap. Our rearends can be made to last.
My car ran slicks and a nitrous bigblock for years without scattering anything. Only twisted the axles but never a u joint or gears.

Norval: WOW! 9 inch Ford would be AWESOME!
I found this site that says they have a kit for the IRS that will make it stand up to drag racing: http://www.dragvette.com/products917.html

The guy is here in South Louisiana, he name is Sammy Pizziano(not 100% certain on the spelling of the last name). His car is a Red '69 Vert with a 427 and a built Th350. I met him at the track one day and asked several questions about the car, he kinda blew me off with one word answers (Yes and No). I read about him one month later in "National Dragster" and his rear end, I do know he owns the record for the fastest "Stock class". He's running high 10's on stock intake, carb, manifold, heads and cam. Only thing allowed is jetting of the carb, headers, ported and polished intake and heads, and the hottest cam offered in the facotry car (L88 or ZL1 cam is allowed).

Re: Rear end for drag racing question (Corey 68)
Corey: I remember the write up in National Dragster. Seems he had to do a lot of begging and pleading for NHRA to allow him to use the solid rear end, but he won the case by saying it was a safety issue. At least I THINK that's why they let him run it. I did a search but didn't come up with any hits on that name or anything close to it. Oh well.

Dep, I found it. :D
Name is spelled "Sammy Pizzolato "
All I found was the pic and his racing results --> http://www.google.com/custom?q=Sammy...h=www.nhra.com
I could not find the article, though I read the exact same article you did. :yesnod:
