Thanks Paul, for posting this picture. It clearly shows the direction in which
the control arm wants to tear off from the front crossmember. After looking
at this, I went home and looked at mine. I have a couple pics below that show
the front of teh bracket on both sides. My passenegr side was clearly starting
to show fatigue.
I would suggest that everyone crawl under the front of their vette and look
at this area carefully. The inside edge of the nutbar gets pulled down. Once
that metal starts to tear ... it's gonna go fast.
See mine below (with control arms removed).
Here is the driver's side (good shape):
This is the passenger side (not so good shape):
Note that the nutbar has pulled down on theright side. The bend in the crossmember
is subtle, but it definitely is there. A few more years of use, and this might
look like Paul's picture above. This coincides with the bracket pulling away
on the back passenger side, too.
