Default LS1 coil on plug on early SBC?

I was reading an article about put a carb on an LS1. It had a timing control module to run the coil on plug. Would it be possible to just mount this coils on an early model and run the control module? What else would be needed? Would it be worthwhile to attempt (not that I plan on it, just curious)? I would assume it would need a crank trigger input to the control module, other than that, it would appear to be possible.

I am not an expert on this but ... To run a coil on plug set up you need both a main trigger set up (8 at cam speed or 4 at crank speed) and one home trigger (has to be cam speed) From what I know of the LS1/carb set up, it uses all the factory sensors of the LS1 and a replacement ECU that just controls timing. Since none of the LS1 parts fit our style of SBC, we are basically toast. MSD does offer an 8 coil conversion but its very spendy.
