Hey, I'm very close to installing my Al Knoch carpet and would like to do it the same way GM did, if it's possible. Can somebody post pics of how the seams look, where the cuts are, and what's exposed on the original carpeting? My car had a crappy carpet-job when I got it, so I don't have ANY frame of refererence.
OK, how about a description... Are the hinge springs and mounts visible? How about the Astro vent drains? Does the fender carpet cover the vertical steel column that the top mounts on? Of the four pieces of rear carpeting, which goes in first...bulkhead, inner-fenders, or bottom/back? Specifically, I'm thinking of the area at the base of the steel column that the top mounts on. Three sections of carpet meet there and I'm curious how they fit.
it's quite simple, only one way the carpet fits, dry fit it, console out, and cut the slots for the seats...put the seats on the carpet and cut the slots. If you have the rubber hold downs that go through the firewall...you will have to put the carpet in place, the, make sure the seats will bolt in, then cut holes for the rubber hold downs...when pushing the rubber tips through the firewall, spray them with Silicone, else you're just wasting your time. Think there are 3 or 4 per side. Thes rubber pieces keep the carpet from sliding down.
OOps...forget the seats....instead put in short bolts or threaded rod where the seats bolt down...this will give you a reference point where to make the slices.
