Default 78 Pace Car - L82 4 speed w/CB option

My wife and I just purchased a 78 Pace Car, L-82, 4 speed with CB radio option. Does anyone know how many were manufactured with these options? The car has 23,000 miles. What would approximate value range be? Interior is immaculate. Thanks for any info.

The numbers were not calculated or tracked with that kind of precision and any numbers given would be a guess.

But you do have a Pace Car with desirable options...the L82 and the 4 speed. Tough to assign value without seeing it to verify numbers, originality, etc. For 23k mile vehicle, one would expect it to be an original car and your description of the interior suggests that. Corvette Fever online offered a webpage where you can calculate value by adding options.

I ordered a '78 pace car with those options. I think it was around number 1350. it was bought at Silvey Chev. in fredericksburg, Va.

It would be interesting to know how many were optioned this way.

Good luck with your car.

If you already purchased the 78.
Why would you want to know the value range now? Thats something you should have asked before your purchase.

We are aware of 78 Pace Car values, just curious of what these unusual options would add to the car. We've owned two '78 Pace Cars previously but not with the L-82 4 speed or CB options.

Thanks for your comments!

There are no actual records available, short of knowing there were 6502 Pace Cars produced. You might want to check with a Pace Car registry or the NCRS to determine whether any further information has been compiled.

You could take the production figures from the Blackbook and do a regression, but this would only give you a guesstimated figure to think about; nothing documented.

I have been told on several occasions the number of L82 ,4 spd., Pace Cars is around 270. I also have the CB which I have been told is even a more rare combo but nobody seems to know thw numbers with all those options.

It uses the radio antenna, which is a combo radio, CB antenna.

I've seen that same figure (270), probably here on the forum, but no one has ever said where this number comes from. Any sources for the 270 figure?

I cannot quote the source I only assume it comes from someone with more knowledge than me. I have heard it more than once in several diffetrent areas, Forums , Shows, etc. So I just assume it is correct but who really knows?

It's more fable than fact. I've read just about every authoritative source written on 78 and never came across that number. Someone extrpolated a number and its gotten great candle power.

You know all the pace car serial numbers so just order all the build sheets from the National Corvette Museum. You will then be able to get all the numbers correct and maybe sell the results in book form. It may cost more than the car but its only money and you could ask for a discount and a life memership in the package deal.

'78s were built at St. Louis. The NCM has records only for the Bowling Green built cars.

It's possible Allied-Vaughn could have records of the dealer invoices for the Pace Cars, but that would cost $50 a pop times 6502 Pace Cars. You do the math.
