Default What type of oil?

The indicator light says it time to "Change Oil".

Thanks

Motor oil always works for me!!

This and a couple others will get you a different answer from just about everybody.

Go with a brand you like, for low mileage 5w-30 and 10w-30 for high.

Mobil 1 Synthetic came in the cars.

Mobil 1 5W-30. That is what my 95 came with from the factory. 10W-30 will also work, per the manual. There might be a Mobil 1 sticker under your hood near the front.

And don't forget to reset the "Change Oil" light.
It won't automatically go out just because you change the oil.

Instructions are in the owner's manual.
In case you don't have one, you can download a '95 manual here:

The directions are printed on your oil filler cap.

For your car, the manual says to use oil that meets the GM4718M specification. I was a chemical engineer and used to write specifications for a living but I cannot tell you what is so special about oil that meets that spec or why GM seems to think that an LT1 motor needs it and others don't, but it doesn't seem like a place where I am going to out smart them by using something that doesn't meet the spec. There is readily available oil out there at a modest price that does meet it, so that is what I use. So far, I have found Mobil 1 5-30 and Penzoil Platinum 5-30 and 10-30 meet the spec, many of the variants of Mobil 1 do not meet the spec.

Anyway, that will conclude my oil rant..............

Since the LT1 doesn't come with an oil cooler option, the oil has to meet GM4718M specifications.

regular Mobil1 5w-30 meets this as do a few others.

If this post is in jest, then I'd recommend resetting the oil life reminder light- which automatically makes the oil good again for about 5000 miles

since you have a roller cam engine it wont be too picky on the brand but yes mobil 1 came in your car so you might as well use it.

Flat tappet cam engines are different because the lobe drags across the lifter you need an oil with more zinc in it to protect the cam and many oil companies have reduced their zinc content significantly. My last oil change cost me $100 because I used Amsoil, one of the manufacturers that still has a decent zinc content.

but that's not for you, you're fine with Mobil 1.
